the kindness elves

you guys... do you know about my deep, dark dislike of elf on the shelf? it runs deep. so deep. more than one person has tried to purchase an elf for beckett and i just absolutely won't stand for it. here are my reasons...

1. the elf is a creep with a capital C. i seriously do not like the look of his little sneaky face. and i don't like the idea of him being a little christmas time stalker.
2. not everybody follows this rule, but i don't like the thought that he reports back to santa about your behavior. i do not give my children christmas presents as rewards for being good. they do not have to earn gifts and they will not be taken away for being bad. i hope that beckett and heath will try and be good because being a good person feels right and is right, not because they don't want to get ratted out by tiny creeper and lose out on material possessions.
3. why can't you touch the elf? a toy you can't touch? lame.
4. elf on the shelf is a lot of work. and for the benefit of who? too much effort, for too little payout. like i don't have enough going on during the holidays?
5. lots of people make their elves do naughty stuff. what in the what? that creeper elf does bad things and then tattles to santa if you do bad things? what message is this elf trying to give? i do not understand it.

uhhhh... i'm sorry. it gets me all riled up and i really don't even know why. lots of people i know (actually most people i know) with small children do elf on the shelf. and i'm not judging them. really. for the most part... most people i know just use the elf as a way to leave surprises out for their kids in the morning. and their kids love it. duh. and moms these days go above and beyond trying to make life fun for their kids. i get that. and i totally do it too. more magic! all the time! and i even debated getting the terrible elf because i didn't want my boys to feel left out of something fun. i just felt like there had to be something out there that would suit my family better. and there is! welcome... the kindness elves! the blog below can explain them as well as i can... so check it out. she is my anti-elf on the shelf twin!

i love them so bad, people. the kindness elves are still a lot of work, but totally worth it. beckett loved them! i got our elves at target (for $3) and the door was from ben franklin crafts. we named our elves lars and sven and i'm sure they will be part of our christmas traditions for years to come. (why yes, i did buy extras like a psychopath for possible future children, thank you very much.) below are our 24 kindness elf activities... and pictures to go with it, when i remembered to take a picture! i did have to sit down and plan everything out in november, and that did take some time. i know this post is the longest thing you ever did read. BUT if you are interested in doing kindness elves with your kids, you can totes steal my ideas and that will save you precious time... that you thought was lost... reading this. ha! also, if you have a super great kindness idea, i wouldn't hate it if you told me.

phew! you made it all the way! merry christmas!
