a day of celebrating two

last year beckett had his party on the same day as his actual birthday and i was a little sad about it. it is already hard to make his birthday special when it is so close to christmas (when he was opening his birthday presents, he kept calling them more christmas presents) and only having one day of celebrating made everything fly by. this year his party is going to be  this weekend and we had a special family day to celebrate his actual birthday. i liked this way better. beckett had a pretty fun first day as a two year old.

first we woke beckett up in the morning with a sprinkle doughnut and a candle. matt thought he would be overwhelmed when we both barged in singing with a camera (and video camera) going, but he loved it. he just took it all in and smirked. he ate about 12 sprinkles off his doughnut and was done with it, but that's fine. probably the candle doughnut wake up will be a tradition. forever. his wife is going to be super creeped out about it one day.

then we went to beckett's first messy art class just for two year olds. harper signed up for the class too and brought beckett a birthday balloon! beckett loved it! 30 seconds later he let it go and it floated away. he yelled for it to come back, but that is not the way of the balloon. here are some things we learned in art class. beckett and harper both paint with their left hands. beckett and harper both think the "messy" part of art class is seriously overrated. beckett and harper are cute. that's pretty much it.

after art, we picked up jane from school (long time no see jane!) and headed to trophy cupcakes. beckett picked out a birthday cupcake and then we got another cupcake for jane and beckett to split. it was snickerdoodle flavored. and delicious. we dropped matt off at work and headed home to finish up the work day.

that evening beckett got to open a few gifts he got in the mail. he got some eggs from his friends, coen and marin, and a beckett puzzle, from his cousins... faith, mia, and camdyn. he loved them both. a lot. then we skyped with a million people and had some dinner.

after dinner beckett got his s'more cupcake and he pretty much inhaled it. we thought he was maybe going to pass out from marshmallow fluff, but he pulled through.

then he opened up his gift from matt and i. it was a new backpack! and it looks like a fox! and it is the cutest! and it was full of little things, but he did not care one bit and wouldn't let us take anything out of the backpack and kept it zipped right up while he walked around announcing that he was going to chicken school. (ironic that he would have a fox backpack for chicken school.)

and before bed we measured beckett for the measuring chart. he is 2 feet and 10 inches! and he made this face. ha. i love him.
