gooey butter cookies

gooey butter cookies are hands down my favorite christmas time cookie. really you could make them whenever... i have no idea why i reserve them for christmas time, but it does make them even more special. the only thing better is my oma's christmas butter cookies... and they are shaped like ducks and i love them most of all, but i have no idea how to make them. maybe one day my grandchildren will wait with excitement for their gooey butter cookies to arrive in the mail. probably. anyways, this year i made a lot (the recipe makes soooo many cookies) and put them in jars and beckett took them to our neighbors. yum. you are welcome neighbors. you should go make some right away. really, why wouldn't you?

cookies from oma

we just got our christmas cookies from my oma. it takes her four days to bake all the cookies from scratch and they are so delicious. every year she says it's her last year making them, but so far she has kept the cookies coming. matt and saige and my dad all like her jelly cookies the best and dig through the cookie tin to get to them first. luckily, i like the butter cookies the best and have no fierce competition. my oma made a special nut free batch of butter cookies shaped like ducks for beckett. he loved them, of course. who wouldn't? a monster maybe. beckett also got some kinder chocolate, but only beckett because he is the only kinder these days. sad. (i still ate some of it, don't tell my oma.) it was very exciting to get to share oma's cookies with beckett. really, i probably need to learn to bake these things myself, but they would never turn out as good. i think they need a grandmother's touch. thanks for the cookies, oma! we loooove them.
