animal-palooza week!

make something monday: animal shirts
we decorated tshirts with animals using a bleach pen. old navy had shirts on the cheapie cheap ($5!) and i got a bleach pen at target. you never know what color the bleach will turn the shirt... bleach is weird like that, so it's kind of a fun surprise. i printed out simple cartoon animals of whatever animal the kids chose, so they could have some drawing inspiration. if your shirt is a light color you can pre-draw with a pencil and bleach pen over it. so fun! also... this was a pinterest idea. jaw-dropping news, i know.

time to read tuesday: animal books
the library had a few bajillion options in the animal department.

we're going out wednesday: woodland park zoo
i love the zoo, but sometimes i start to feel like... "oh are we big jerks (like humans in general) for caging these wild animals and forcing them to live in confinement for our amusment?" but then i just decided... whatever. they don't know any different. maybe they love it. probably not, but i still like going.

that's delicious thursday: homemade animal crackers
so adorable. you just need some teeny tiny animal cookie cutters.

fun outside friday: farrel-mcwhirter farm park
it's like a free zoo with farm animals. fun.

transportation week!

make something monday: polka dot transportation
i found the polka dot art idea on pinterest (you are shocked), but the blog is in spanish. it's okay though... the pictures are enough or you can have crazy google translate it for you. anyways, you just make a picture using ink pads and erasers on the end of pencils. i found silhouette photos online for the kids transportation choices (an airplane, rocket, and hot air balloon) and printed and cut them out. then we traced them onto card stock and polka dotted inside the tracing. it's pretty easy and cute.

time to read tuesday: transportation books
there are a lot of forms of transportation. a lot. think about it.

we're going out wednesday: the museum of flight
the museum of flight isn't exactly my cup of tea, but there are some pretty cool things there. you can take a tour of nixon and kennedy's (and some other presidents) air force one. and go inside a replica rocket ship. where astronauts sleep is terrifying by the way, as if that job isn't already the scariest.

that's delicious thursday: sugar cookie trucks
the pinterest recipe below is a cookie dough recipe that doesn't spread or grow too much, so it is a goodie for making cookies in shapes. like trucks.

fun outside friday: meridian playground
so, i originally planned on taking the kids to a park in bainbridge, so we could take a ferry there, but then that started to feel like a crazy excursion. so we went to a park in seattle... and we took a bridge there, so that's something. plus, we went shopping at u-village.

outer space week!

make something monday: bubble colored planets
i found a recipe for bubble art on pinterest and after we made the art with bubbles, we cut it out into circles and hung the "planets" in the window with fishing line. they look really cool when the sun shines through them.
bubble art

time to read tuesday: outer space books
now i know why pluto doesn't get to be a planet anymore. poor pluto.

we're going out wednesday: pacific science center
the pacific science center has the only planetarium in the area, and that's crazy because i LOVE a good planetarium. they also have a space area and a scale where you can find out your weight on the other planets. beckett would weigh 2 pounds on non-planet pluto. also, they have a butterfly atrium! cool.

that's delicious thursday: astronaut ice cream cupcakes
so... i didn't make these. the sigl's left for hawaii and i'm not going to make crazy complicated cupcakes for just beckett. sorry b. also, these cupcakes look like a lot of work, but really you could make any cupcake and put astronaut ice cream on top, which can be purchased in the gift shop at the pacific science center or on amazon. also also, i heard astronauts don't really eat astronaut ice cream in space. what?! why?

fun outside friday: rhododendron park
i took b here. it's very spacey. i'm lying.

relaxation week

make something monday: homemade facial masks
 oatmeal yogurt mask

time to read tuesday: free book
what is more relaxing than curling up with a good book that you chose? the answer is nothing.

we're going out wednesday: lynnwood rec center pool
so, in general i find swimming to be a relaxing activity, but this pool area was pretty crazy and not relaxing, but that's okay.

that's delicious thursday: zucchini bread
i think relaxing food is the same as spa food, which is usually healthy food. and zucchini is pretty healthy. also, this is a paula deen recipe with NO butter. what?! hmm... recipe

fun outside friday: 132nd square park
this park has a stone area for foot reflexology. how relaxing.
