12 month check up

we took heath for his twelve month check up and having a walking child that loves to climb underneath things at a doctor's office is a delight! heath just spent almost an hour practically naked on the floor. whatevs, man. everything looks good, and heath is reaching all the normal milestones... even with his tiny body and gigantic head. he totally remembered that the table was where he had to get shots, so he lost his marbles every time we would try and put him on it. as you can see in the pictures, he got his exam in my lap. then we put him on the table and he got shots. he loved them! no. no he did not, but he WILL love the lack of measles in his life. lucy thinks heath is so funny and cute because he IS so funny and cute... say his totally unbiased parents.

these shoes were made for walking

we took heath to nordstrom to get his first pair of walking shoes. nordstrom is obviously not the most economical place to buy...well, anything, but they do a cute job making it an experience and i've obviously bought into that. heath had to have his own nordie, duh. if you are interested, here is the post about beckett getting his first shoes there too. heath was so cute and we ended up getting adorbs grey and red shoes that they didn't have in heath's tiny foot size in-store and we had to order, so we had to put other shoes on him for his photos. they are all lies. although the tiny nikes were very ridiculously cute.heath is adjusting pretty well to shoe life. it makes him look so big! well, you know, relatively speaking.

beckett in the same spot... at the same age!

mother's day

being a mom is just the toughest job, isn't it? when we were down in california for beckett's birthday, my oma asked me if beckett would be okay to run an errand with my uncle or if he would feel uncomfortable being away from me. i thought that beckett would be fine (especially since the errand was going to a bakery) and he was, but the idea of it got me thinking. i can remember being very young and having babysitters or being over at somebody's house for a play date and missing my mom. wishing that she was there. knowing i would always feel most at ease, most content at home with my mom. i look at beckett and heath and i can NOT wrap my mind around the fact that i am that person to them. for them i am home. i am comfort. the feeling of that is exhilarating and terrifying. it's just such a huge thing to mean so much to another person. and i don't want to mess that up. i want to do a great job, especially since i picked to have them, but they didn't get to choose me. anyways, that's my super deep mother-type thought for the day. ha! i am so grateful for my boys and what a perfect fit we are for each other; and that my job isn't nearly as hard as it could be, since i have a super active and involved person to team up with. i don't know how single moms do it. truly. i do know that i love my guys and as jen hatmaker would say, they make me feel all the feelings. happy mother's day, moms!

a dragons love tacos party!

for heath's birthday we had a dragons love tacos themed party. i feel like every party heath ever has will have to have at least a little bit of a mexican theme stuck in there somewhere because he was born on cinco de mayo. pinatas forever! ridiculous, i know. anyways, the book is very adorable... check it out here...

we served tacos from our favorite taco truck with no spicy salsa! that is a lie. the salsa that comes with the tacos is SO spicy. what in the heck? we also had lots of other mexican foods like rice and beans and chips. also, dragon spike cupcakes for dessert.

we had a bounce house outside! luckily, it was like 80 degrees out... almost too hot! i can NOT handle heath's face in the picture of his grandpa holding him. it was taken while all the big kids were bouncing. i feel like heath was like, "excuse me? who's party is this again?" ha!

singing happy birthday to our sweet ONE YEAR OLD! ahhhhh! and some family pictures. except no beckett... he almost immediately took his cupcake and peaced out. plus he was suffering from heat stroke because he was such an intense bounce house jumper.

pinata time! it was a dragon of course. our neighbor, christian, who is 7 eventually got it open. i made the silly choice to put ring pops in the pinata. a fun candy in theory, but here's a piece of wisdom for you... ring pops break into a thousand pieces when beat with a stick. the starbursts and mambas held up much better.

here is a sad, sad story. i made a crepe paper photo wall. and bought and made photo wall props. then i got overwhelmed during the party and totally forgot about it! and took ZERO pictures at the photo wall! NOOOOOO!!! what?! why?! i'm still so sad about it. after all our friends had left and heath was napping, i made saige and marcello take pictures with me at the photo wall. small children would have been cuter, probs. maybe not. i also had john print a giant heath picture to play pin the sombrero on heath, and i forgot about that too. geez. like two days after the party beckett asked, "hey! when is it time to put the tiny hats on the heath picture?" ack! never. it's never time. party fail. beckett wasn't too sad since now he has all the prizes.

a little present opening. heath got a lot of fun new stuff. he's a lucky guy with a lot of people who just love him a ton. he is pretty lovable. phew! what a party! thanks to everybody who came to celebrate heath and us for keeping another human alive for his first year! yes!

happy birthday HEATH!
