trimming the tree

tree decorating time. ready... set... go!

turkey day... again

it is awfully nice to not host thanksgiving at our house because there is nothing as terrible as the kitchen catastrophe caused by preparing thanksgiving dinner. but there is a big downside to not having thanksgiving at our own house... no leftovers! unacceptable. so, we made another thanksgiving dinner before saige left to go back to school. we roasted our own turkey (that was nice and cheap after thanksgiving) and made more mashed potatoes and cornbread stuffing and cranberry sauce and rolls. it was all goooood. also, why isn't stuffing a year round side dish? it is too delicious to be reserved for one meal a year. am i right?

i am thankful: part four

it has been two years since i lost my mom. exactly. i am so thankful for the 27 years that i got with her. it's not really enough, but it is better than the 0 that beckett gets. i wish he could have met her. she would have been a really good oma, for sure. i miss her... a lot. it is hard to become a mom without your mom to see it. i think she would think that i'm doing a pretty good job, though. i am thankful for the family i have, the family i married into, and the friends that are like family too. if you are reading this, i am thankful for you! as i head into the holiday season... and pull out the christmas decorations, i am reminded of my childhood and my mom and happy memories and i feel her presence. i feel blessed and thankful to create the same for my baby. so, goodbye fall... goodbye thanksgiving, but i will continue to be thankful as we say hello to winter and christmas and a new year!

oh tannenbaum!

we went to yakima fruit market to get our tree today! we got a little guy because we won't be here on christmas, but i couldn't not have a tree to decorate for b's first christmas. b was so cute looking at the christmas trees and i can't even tell you how first experiences with him are a million times more special when he is in a happy mood. he is just so adorable sometimes, that i can't even stand it. he did great taking pictures and he got to try his first ever candy cane! hurray! he was pretty into it. i am SO excited to experience everything that the christmas season has to offer through beckett's eyes. also, as a random side note beckett has finally started saying, "mama" and he knows it is me and it is adorable. he is working on saige. right now it sounds like, "ssssssay". precious.

we give thanks!

beckett had a wonderful first thanksgiving. he got to spend the day with his aunt saige and his good friends, harper and lincoln. matt made a delicious sweet potato appetizer (that b actually ate!) and mashed potatoes (that b would not eat). b also did not like turkey (surprise, surprise) or stuffing or green beans or cheesecake or pumpkin pie (?!). he did eat some blueberries that were in the salad. okay, enough with the eating documentary. we also played some christmas song charades. my teams downfall was feliz navidad. go ahead... try and figure out how you would act that out. anyways, we had a good night with friends and are already looking forward to next year when b will actually enjoy the food (fingers crossed) and kind of know what is going on.
