on valentine's day we stayed home and made a nice dinner and dessert. on wednesday, natasha came over to watch b and matt and i actually went out to dinner... alone! the first time since before beckett was born. goodness. anyways, back to valentine's day. beckett is really into all vegetables roasted... really anything. so we tried a newbie for vday, parsnips. it was my first ever parsnip experience! they are like a carrot and sweet potato baby. delish. beckett would only eat the parsnips and mushrooms. steak and potato were just too crazy for him. i really wanted to rent breaking dawn to watch after dinner, but i forgot to go and rent it. matt said we could watch something else, but he wasn't sure what could be more romantic than a pedophile and a necrophiliac who are in love. what?! rude. also, a little accurate. as creepy as bella and edward are, i must be even more creepy for loving their story. oh well. i hope everyone else had a fun (not creepy) valentine's day with someone (or someones) special. mwah!

these shoes were made for walking
b got a check from oma for his birthday and we finally got around to spending some of that money. we took beckett to nordstrom to get his first official pair of walking shoes! no more free-spirit hippy baby for us. well, except that i'm not ready to accept that he needs a haircut yet. that's a different thing though, for a different post. nordstrom is really a great place to go to get first time shoes. they make a big deal out of it and i loved it. they measured b's feet and talked about good first shoes (soft soled leather shoes... too bad because i kind of wanted little tom's or converse). then we tried some shoes on and picked our favorite and b practiced walking in them. he definitely needs some more practice... it will take some time, being a baby is so crazy. then, beckett got a balloon, his picture taken in his new shoes, and a nordy stuffed animal. here is the adorable thing... nordy has been given to kids who get their first pair of walking shoes at nordstrom forever! and an old lady there told me today that both her kids had nordys and they are both over 50 years old! i. love. that. all our kids will have nordys too, i decided right then. beckett loves his balloon, LOVES nordy, and thinks his new shoes are okay. i can't believe we have a full time shoe wearing walker on our hands. they grow up too fast. it's really true. i know this is a ridiculous amount of pictures to go with buying shoes. oh well, deal with it. thanks for the shoes, oma!
trike ride
oh yes, it's true... beckett finished putting together his trike. totally by himself. he is a genius. i won't post pictures of all the assembly, it would just bore you. here is beckett in his new trike in the living room, where he assembled it. then he generously let roy the rhino take it for a spin. he actually put roy in himself and pushed him around. the next day we took it outside (please ignore our lazy saturday and b's moose pajamas). he loves that trike so much. it is extra cool because the pieces all come off (the handle and security seat and cow cover) so it eventually will just look like a real trike he can pedal and steer himself. i love things that grow with the kid... so clever. also, i love b... in case you were wondering.

b builds a trike
beckett got quite the surprise today! his brand new trike from yiayia and papou came in the mail. putting it together was a little crazy!
the first step to building anything is to sit on the box
next you pull out all the pieces and check to make sure you have everything
then you test the actual pieces
then you smell everything... maybe taste it
you read the instructions...
you ask mom for help, but she is skeptical you can do it...
" where in the heck does this go?"
then the tv gets distracting...
oh man, you gotta check those instructions again!
a quick call to the help line for support is necessary
they tell you, you need a screwdriver
so much screwdriver work to be done
now you're getting stuff put together!
then b had to take a nap. check back to see how things worked out... cliffhanger!!!
