happy valentimes!

we had big plans for valentine's day, but there were a lot of sickies around, so we spent valetine's day with just our little family. which was nice. i made every food that i could into a heart shape. did you know that things taste better when shaped like hearts? according to my two year old, it's true. i love valentine's day and i hate when people talk about it being a made up corporate hallmark holiday. this may be true, but i would never take for granted any excuse to spread a little love. plus, all holidays are better with kids, so i love them ALL! i am already annoyed thinking about easter being in march this year. back off easter... let st. patty's day shine. tangent done. i hope you spent valentine's day with someone (or someones) that made you feel loved. i did. here are some crappy iphone pictures!

going back to cali cali

have you missed us? were you very worried? sorry about that. when i get behind on the blogging, i deal with it by not blogging. it's a viscious cycle. anyways, in mid february my nanny family took a trip to the happiest place on earth and i decided to take b down to california to visit family. the trip was good and i wasn't the most excited to fly alone with beckett, but he did great. it was his 9th time flying somewhere... which is a lot for a two year old. here is the bad part about the trip. i took almost no pictures. barely any. at all. i hate when that happens. and i have only myself to blame. anyway, we hung out with my oma and uncle jack and dad a lot and that was fun. one afternoon we went to my aunt lana's house and saw my cousins heather and carrie. carrie's sons came over after school, luke and grant, and beckett thought they were soooooo cool. he just wanted to sit right next to them and do whatever they were doing. they are pretty cool, so it's not surprising. when i go to california it makes me a little sad to be so far away from all our family, but i am glad when we get the opportunity to go visit. and you know... everyone is welcome to come visit us in seattle... really. so just do it people! seriously.

choo choo, penelope is two!

penelope celebrated her birthday last weekend with a train themed party. so fun! margaret wanted a cute vintage train theme, but penelope obviously wanted thomas because he is so super cool. am i a bad mom if i admit that i probably won't let beckett have input on his party themes until he is like 10? that is also how i feel about halloween costumes. anyways, i digress. penelope is too darn cute, and has the squeakiest little mouse voice that you ever heard, and we are just the most happy that we got to celebrate her birthday with her. beckett likes her a lot a lot. happy 2nd birthday penelope. two looks good on you!

preschool

last week i had a small nervous breakdown. here is why. i started talking to a mom of a student in jane's kindergarten class about preschool. she asked if beckett was going to start preschool in the fall. i answered yes. and that didn't freak me out because i had thought about that. and i knew i wanted him to start a program two mornings a week. and then she said, "isn't it so crazy that preschools all do their registration in february?" and i said, "oh my gosh, i know!" but guess what? i did NOT know! i did not know at all! so then i started freaking out. i had done zero research on preschools in the area. so i quickly asked around, had a frantic conversation with lonnie... who easily buys into stress and then we were stressed and researching together and we picked five schools to look at. we picked two co-ops and three christian preschools. i took some pictures at the open house to kirkland co-op. here is what i found out about co-ops. they are not for me. no sir. as far as i can tell, i volunteer all the time, create the lessons, provide the materials, bring the snack, clean the school!, and pay a good chunk of money every month. my money goes to... um? i don't know. plus, co-ops are VERY based around developing social skills and have very little to do with academics and i don't love that. it's fine for now, but we are in preschool for the long run, aka until kindergarten. plus plus, part of the reason for me sending b to preschool is so that he will have an authority figure that isn't still just me. plus plus plus, i have an education degree! if i wanted to do all the work myself, i could start my own preschool. not really, but kind of. anyway, no thank you co-op. so... a christian preschool it is! i have toured one and have two more to look at next week and then we decide and we BETTER get into wherever we choose because i will definitely get an ulcer if we don't. in conclusion, really people?! february? 7 months before he actually starts? that's a loooooong time for a person who has only been on this earth for 25 months. it's cool though. i'm sure stuff will work out and beckett will go to the perfect preschool and you can look forward to that post in just a little over half a year.
