the hunger games

matt and i went to the midnight showing of the hunger games. i was really back and forth about whether or not i wanted to attend the midnight showing or if we should wait and what i would do about beckett and when we needed to get to the theater and if we should both go. matt suggested that we accept that we are adults with a child and that maybe our midnight viewings are over. i thought about that. i decided no. i am never too old for a midnight movie. and one late night is really no big deal... i can rally easily for that. i even took beckett out on a park date the next day and felt fine. see? i'm not getting old. i am young and hip. anyways, whitney sat in our house late into the night while our baby slept (thanks whitney!) and we got to take mackenzie to her first ever midnight movie. fun! super glad i went at midnight. no regrets. i also saw it again with saige two days later when she got home for spring break. glad i did that too.

okay, my movie thoughts (plot spoiler alert... but really, read the book before you see this movie... and do NOT tell me you are not a reader. what does that even mean? gross.)

cinna is my favorite character in the books. lenny kravitz was the worst actor in the movie. sad. could he have been more monotone? he just faded into the background practically. also, why doesn't lenny kravitz age? it's creepy.

the beginning of the movie is so shaky! like the camera man is having a seizure. it almost made me feel a little sicky. maybe the whole movie is like that, but i got used to it?

i thought katniss, peeta, and gale were all well cast. it is nice to see a movie with competent actors in the lead roles. (cough, cough...twilight)

i loved elizabeth banks as effie. i thought i wouldn't, but i did.

when rue died (SPOILER!) i didn't cry... which makes me feel like they did something wrong because i'm a crier and i certainly cried when i read about it in the book.

i loved the scene where the tributes first rode in on the carriages... it looked just like i imagined it would and i love when that happens. also, when katniss goes up in the tube to the arena, i felt nervous! like maybe i was going into the arena too! ahh!

how crazy intense was peeta's camouflage makeup? ha. he could have been a fake rock hiding forever.

in general, i think it was a very good adaptation of the book. some of the characters were underdeveloped as were their relationships with each other, but what can you do? as far as book adaptations, i think it was better than the harry potters and twilights. annnnd... shouldn't saige have been cast as foxface? it's like that character was based on her. if you know saige at all, i know you would agree.

i had to crop myself out of this picture because i was making a hideous face...
