tree decorating

the christmas tree... where did that tradition come from? it sounds like the behavior of a drunk man. i can picture it now. "honey, why is there a... pine tree in our living room?" "i like it! tomorrow... we're gonna... we're gonna decorate it! for jesus..." -jim gaffigan

i got beckett a new elephant ornament for the tree this year. he helped picked it out and loved it and i thought it would make him excited for tree decorating. except for some reason he thinks it does not belong on the tree. at least 3 times a day i hear him over by the tree saying, "elephant! what are you doing here?!" and he rips the elephant right off the tree. then i find it in super random places... like in a kitchen cabinet. you think i would learn that you can't predict anything or have any expectations whatsoever with toddlers, but i'm stubborn. anyways...

before we decorated the tree, beckett did some sketches of trees and ornament placement. he does his best work on tables.

eggnog break! how much eggnog is too much for a toddler? he drank a gross amount.

this was right before he squeeeeezed the milk and exploded it on the lady sitting next to us.

oh tannenbaum!

we went to get our christmas tree on saturday (it was raining friday!) and this year we cut a tree down! i thought it was a super fun idea. matt thought it was random. he said it is weird because it is on a tree farm that grows trees just for christmas. and that it would be like going to a turkey farm and shooting your turkey for thanksgiving, instead of getting one from the wild. i think i might consider this turkey farm thing if it were real. anyway, the tree farm was very cute and we got a very nice tree. check back to see it decorated and beckett sampling his first ever eggnog. he liked it. a lot.

we give thanks

we celebrated a low key thanksgiving at home and it was pretty nice. i made baked pumpkin french toast for breakfast (from pinterest... duh) and it was delish. john came over for dinner (and brought sweet potatoes!) and we ate at a normal person time. i do not get people who eat thanksgiving dinner at like 2:00. when in the heck is it okay to eat dinner in the middle of the afternoon? really. if you do that... i think it's weird, so now you know. anyway, dinner was very good and thanksgiving-ish and afterwards we watched brave and ate pie. i thought brave was pretty good... it was hyped up a lot, so i had high expectations.

we have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to look forward to as the holidays fly by and the new year sneaks right up on us. we'll try to enjoy it all... it is the most wonderful time of the year. hope you all had a happy turkey day. gobble gobble!
