anniversary costume flashback

so, i totally forgot to do a blog post on our anniversary! truthfully, last year felt like a big milestone anniversary and it makes our 11 year anniversary seem... i don't know, less exciting? is that terrible? i am excited to have been married to this guy for another year though! really. we spent our anniversary in new york (cause we fancy!) and had a date night at the national bar and dining room, which is a geoffrey zakarian restaurant. he is our favie tv chef! and we got dessert at magnolia bakery in grand central station and it was probably a bigger night out than we would have had at home... so it's a win!

since it's october... which is halloween month!!! please enjoy these flashback photos of a few of our couple costumes of the past. matt is such a trooper and i love his face!

trick or treat!

of course, following tradition, we had an over scheduled halloween. beckett went to preschool in the morning, where he was not allowed to  wear his costume (lame) and they pretty much did nothing to celebrate, i think, but he loves school... so it's okay, i guess. i changed him into his costume in the bathroom at school and we headed right to downtown kirkland for trick or treating at the shops. we met up with the rest of the super mario brothers crew and got a good chunk of halloween candy. and also we made the kids do a photo shoot in front of a brick wall. sadly, little toad (for some unknown reason) could not stand on his own for the photo shoot, but the one-up mushroom was luckily there to help out.

after kirkland we headed home to have lunch and i considered taking the boys to matt's work, but heath getting a nap won out on that debate. matt came home a little early and took beckett trick or treating in our neighborhood, but no photos of that. i reign supreme in the world of photo taking (you may notice that i am rarely in photos) so if i'm not there, it probably doesn't get documented.

in the evening we took the boys to a church trunk or treat event where harper and quinn go to preschool. trick or treating is pretty weird, but trunk or treating is even weirder. candy out of the trunk's of people's cars? why should we ever act like that is okay? it is a good way to get a lot of candy fast though and all the trunks had activities set up where the kids could earn their candy. so if you ignore the creepiness (which is what i am choosing to do), it is actually pretty fun. we met up with the kreitlows, the kings, and the friskes and froze our booties off getting lots of loot. ava and adele were dressed in homemade nemo and dory costumes. they were very adorable.

when we were done freezing to death, and waiting in line for days to karaoke to "let it go" on an elaborate frozen stage, we went to the kings for a soup dinner. i made the kids listen to little goblins ten, my all time favorite halloween book... buy it immediately, using the amazon link i conveniently provided for you. and heath tried to hear if his future bestie had anything to say to him about halloween. psh. happy halloween!!!

(our non coordinating shame is SO deep. i told lonnie to write a book about a dragon, a gnome, and a dog and hopefully no one will realize it was written years after 2011.)
